Teking advantage of the 16% rate of unemployment among shipbuilding and ship repair workers, the Tyneside Shipbuilding Employers, at a meeting with union representatives on Jamary 14th, demanded a 25% cut in piece rates for woldorse Leaders of the main union affected, the Boilermakers, angrilY denounced tho move. According to press reports, John Hepplowhite, national executive member of that union said: “What the Tyno employers aro attempting to achiove mist be secon as an attack on the wages of every trade unionist. If thoy g6t away with this it will be the green light for every amployer in the country to try his hands" A strong fight against the mvo is expected.
