FORMER MARRIOT “ORKERS UP AGAINST * ITFICULTIES

Tho former workors at P.A. Marriott, who struck for 37 weeks, are in a difficult position. They have lost their jobs and the prospects of those who led the strike of obtaining employment are slight. Thoy cannot obtain unemployment bonefit, because they have not onough stamps on thoir N.H.I. cards, as it is thoy have already paid out £360 for NHI stamps but still need anothor £340 for this purpose, The settlement involyed severance payments of £5 por head and in some casos £10, plus back* Which in all avorages about £18 each. The strike committoe is of the opinion that it sufforod a defoatg thoy could have had the sovorance without a striko but instoad they chose to fight for AMU policy, work= sharing. The committee hope that their fellow workors will assist thom to get over the difficult poriod which lics ahead.
