About 300 students from Lagos University staged a demonstration on March 19th demanding that Sir Alec Douglas—Home leave their country. The demonstration was held when the British Prime Ministor visited the University Teaching Hospital, The demonstrators held up placards saying “Africa detests British hypocrisy", Home, go home", and “Away with Apartheid." The students said they were demonstrating against Britain's support for the Verwoerd racist Government of South Africa, and the white settlers' regime in Southern Rhodesia..” On the same day, the Nigorian paper Daily Timos said the British Prime Minister “is trying to enlist support for Britain's proposal to grant independence to (the white settlers of) Southern Rhodesia,"
