An article in the February issue of Barclays Dank Review discusses unemployment in 'the west! arriving at eagiet ce SS ellie. oot of work, However this figure only includes the advanced capitalist nations - unemployment is, of course, vory high in many of the exploited count— ries of the underdeveloped world; it runs currently at 24% of the work force in South Korea, for instance. The bulk of those included in the 53 million are in the United States. The article says of the U.S., "her problems today can, unhappily, become Jurope's tomorrow." It suggests that the Nede economic target is not enough to mop up the technological unemployment which is bound to follow the overdue modern— isation of British industrial plant - U.S, unemployment has actually increased despite a growth rate of 3.9% over recont years, The article concludes: "The future could be between a well-prepared utopia and chaos with great social suffering."
