On April 3rd, Malcolm X spoke at a public meeting on "The Negro Revolt-what comes next?", Malcolm X's answer was direct-"The Ballot or the Bullet". "1964 threatens to be the most explosive year America has ever witnessed,"he said. "It is a political year...The 22million victims of American democracy are waking up, beCOning politically mature." He appealed to the audience to set aside differences and unitefor action on their common problems; political oppression, economic cxploitation and social degradation at the hands of white men, "I am not anti-white. I am anti-exploitation, anti -oppression..seyou are not faced with a segsregationist conspiracy, we are faced with a government conspiracy...to deprive you of your voting rights, your housing rights, job rights..." NEW YORK April 6th.--- The white man has tricked us into thinking we want to be integrationists or separationists; but those aren't goals, but roads to the same goal of freedom, justice and equality.
