A law providing prison setences and fines for American people who "know ingly" destroyed or mutilated their draft cards was signed by U.S. President Johnson on August 31, Since Johnson announced the buildup of U.S. troops in South Vietnam in July, many American young men across the country have burned their draft cards in public as a form of protest. This move is obviously designed to intimidate such action. U.S. Congress rushed through a Bill in early August which provides for a five-year term of imprisonment, a 10,000 dollar fine or both,
