The liaison ccrmittee of the Parliamentary Labour Party accepted at its meeting on January 24 the explanation from Mr. George Jeper of why he did not vote in either of the critical dvisions at the end of the dehates on the economy cuts. Because of this, his name has been removed from the list of defaulters who face possible suspension, Mr. Jeger has been attributed with the view that he abstained to try to put pressure on the party's managers to take a harder line with left-wing rebels. One would have thought that this was a more irresponsible act than abstaining for reasons of conviction, but the liaison cormittee evidently thought otherwise.
